Jordan entered the junior school egg decorating competition this Easter. It was the first year he was able to participate. After much discussion we all agreed that he should make Sid the Sloth & his dinosaur eggs from the film Ice Age 3. We turned a box into a cave with newspaper & tissue paper. Jordan & I both got bored sticking that down but it really didn't take too long in the end!
We covered the top with cotton wool snow & Jordan made a sign to tell everyone what his entry was all about!
Jordan did an eggscellent job re-creating Shelly, Eggbert & Yoko!
And his efforts at making Sid the Sloth were fantastic (even if I do say so myself)! Sid's body is a hard boiled egg & his features & appendages are made from air drying clay. When they had dried out we glued them onto the egg & Jordan painted Sid with my acrylic paints.
He was over the moon with the finished results!
Jordan & Sid are now the best of friends! And when all the wonderful entries were judged on the last day of term Jordan won 1st prize! (There was a 1st & 2nd prize for each year group). Timmy & Luke were really pleased that their brother won the prize! Lee asked me how we are going to top this year's entry next year. I said I didn't think we would even try! And how I am going to co-ordinate three lots of egg decorating when the twins are in the juniors too, I really don't know! I guess we will see when we get to that point! In the meantime we are still eggstremely proud that Jordan did so well. Sid & his eggs are sitting on our hearth in pride of place. How long is it before the eggs go off though????? :o}
For Lee's birthday Lee, Annie-Joy & I decided to go into town while the boys were in school & take a ride on The Wheel of Liverpool. We went by bus to the Albert Docks pausing to watch the Duck Bus as it swam across the water!

....and as we get closer & closer to it the more I am thinking I must be mad to be even thinking of riding it! (I am really quite scared of heights). Anyway, we have been on the London Eye & I was fine on that & as it's Lee's birthday & I don't like to make a fuss & spoil things we paid up & got seated in a carriage thingy they call a pod I think. I almost immediately regretted my decision to go on the wheel when I stepped into the pod & it began rocking to & fro! The London Eye carriages do NOT do that!!
I was terrified as the wheel began to move up above the Albert Dock but my camera provided a much needed distraction as I tried to focus on taking as many photos as I could to preserve the trip for posterity. Lee kept offering words of reassurance such as 'Keep breathing!' or 'Keep calm!' Little did I know he was feeling just the same!! Anyway, back to the glorious view across the city of Liverpool! Do you see the red boat in the distance? That is the boat that sits on the Island of Wet Wet (the imaginary island that Jordan wrote a song about some years ago). Next to it is the Pirate Ship that you can hire for parties & the like.
A little higher up & looking over my shoulder I see St John's Beacon (the tall tower to the very left of the photo) where Radio City broadcast from. Just to the right of centre you can see the wigwam-like spires of the Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral (known locally as Paddy's Wigwam!!) and below that is a brown brick building with red windows that houses the Anglo- Australian Rice Company! That has always fascinated me!
By about the second revolution I start to feel calmer & think about more arty shots....

The Anglican Cathedral dominates the skyline here. It is a very imposing building even from such a distance! we went to a service there as a family for the first time just before Christmas to see our friend being installed as a Lay Canon there. It was very formal! It's been so long since I have been to a traditional church that I forgot all the dos & don'ts! It was great to be there & experience it all though. Lee enjoyed going there every Wednesday night recently to hear the Bishop of Liverpool's Lent talks.
The Yellow Duck Buses were back on dry land by this point.
Annie-Joy enjoyed the whole experience without fuss. I think here we had just seen the Liverpool Samba Band dressed up in their carnival gear looking like tiny feathered turquoise dots on the ground below which AJ thought was wonderful! She waved & waved to them saying 'Hello! Hello!' She was asking Lee something about that at this point but I can't remember what. the 'view' behind them is across the River Mersey to Birkenhead.
The blokes in the pod below had a great time! I wonder how many were really scared but too proud to let their mates know though? Hee hee!
I DID look when I took this photo & I wished I hadn't coz I nearly passed out!! It still makes me giddy to look at it now!

We had great weather for our trip. I am glad. I would hate to have gone through all that fear to look at foggy murky views!! LOL!!
I like this photo of the wheel. The black pod is the luxury one with a champagne bar & all that jazz! We all declared we had jelly legs when we stepped off the wheel after the ride! Despite the fear we were glad we did it (but probably never again!!). We headed off for lunch at the red Hot Buffet restaurant which was fabulous! We mooched around Waterstones bookshop after lunch & parts of Liverpool One before heading home on the bus to collect the boys from school.
At teatime we had birthday cake, of course! Do you like my creative way of making 34 with candles?
Lee kept blowing out the candles before I took the picture so this shot took along time to take & the candles had melted down a lot & everyone was in fits of giggles!! It was a lovely way to end a lovely day. :o) 
My parents have three chickens in their back garden. The children love feeding them.
Annie-Joy is especially taken with 'the girls'. I love the look on her face her as she gazes adoringly at her brother.
Timmy is a natural with the hens. He is laughing really hard here because the pecking tickles his hands! The other three children are a little more wary of hand feeding though & the grain usually gets hastily thrown on the ground at the last moment as the chicken is about to peck & the child loses their nerve.
My parents live on the edge of the town now & when we visit we usually go for a little walk up the hill into the countryside. There were signs of spring everywhere along the hedgerows. AJ was fascinated by the catkins....
....and so was Timmy.

Luke sat cross legged on the gate at one point & then nearly went head first over the top into the field!
Annie's little legs got tired on the return journey so Grandad helped out. 
AJ does love her Grandad very much. She calls him Grandma or Grandmagrandad! Hee hee!
Gorgeous blue sky & sunshine we had for our walk that day.
Luke discovered that Grandma's pockets are bigger than his & perfect for hiding big pine cones in! We collected a lot of feathers, sticks & cones that day!
It was a lot of fun. Thankyou Mum & Dad for a lovely day!
